... to the 33rd Port of Tauranga Youth Jazz Competition. Quick update: - the competition schedule is now out
WELCOME…
- B3 Hammond legend Brian Auger and our very own Nathan Haines will give masterclasses on Sunday and Friday.
More info:
We thank all young musicians, their teachers, parents and supporters and our wonderful sponsors from the Port for sharing our vision to nurture musical talent in New Zealand.
The big news for 2010 are:
1. the competition has grown into a 3 day event (Big Bands on Friday, Combos on Saturday, Combos open section on Sunday),
2. there will be a final Young Guns Showcase concert on the Sunday at 1.30pm. The best big bands and combos will be invited to perform,
3. there will be a $400 travel subsidy for the first 10 registering Big Bands from out of town,
4. there will be an accommodation subsidy for all bands that are invited to perform in the Sunday More FM Young Guns Showcase.
The competition is among the many special features of the National Jazz Festival. Through this competition some of the country’s best jazz musicians have been discovered and have grown into jazz stars on the international stage. The roll call is impressive – it includes saxophonist Nathan Haines, vocalist Hollie Smith and Jazz Tui award winner pianist Charmaine Ford.
The competition is THE opportunity in New Zealand for young, aspiring musicians to showcase their talents alongside other likeminded jazz enthusiasts and all of that against the backdrop of the country’s longest standing Jazz Festival.
The Port of Tauranga Youth Jazz Competition 2010 is a celebration of young musicians, competitive but loads of fun. The $1,000 prize money for the winner of the MOST OUSTANDING JAZZ BAND and for the BEST BIG BAND are just the icing on the cake.
So join us for the weekend and register early. We are looking forward to hearing you perform!
Registration deadline: Thursday 4th March 2010
The registration form will soon be available here for downloading.
See you in Tauranga at Easter!
