TWO NIGHTS to get your groove on – against the stunning backdrop of Tauranga Harbour.
HURRICANE PARTY - SATURDAY
A NIGHT OF OFF-THE-SCALE TALENT FROM THESE ENSEMBLE BLUES ROOTS JUGGERNAUTS
Blast your blues away with local legends Brilleaux followed by NZ’s sensational Swamp Thing on Saturday night!
Brilleaux play hard, driving, fast and tough British-style Rhythm and Blues.
No slow renditions of old blues classics here - just energetic, sweaty rock n roll with screaming harmonica.
Brilleaux appear at the Hurricane Party this year after having completed their third UK tour, and a blues festival in Italy in June 2016, where reviews cited them as being the highlight of the festival.
Tauranga band Brilleaux were formed specifically to play a variation of up-tempo British Blues not common on the music scene in the southern hemisphere, most blues bands opting to play the more classic Texas or Chicago style blues.
On a big stage with an audience of music lovers, Brilleaux are in their element, so stack the chairs, clear the dance floor.
Brilleaux are Graham Clark (Vocals, Harmonica, Theremin, Guitar), Bruce Rolands (Guitar), Brian Franks (Bass guitar), Ian Beano Gilpin (Drums, BVs)
Swamp Things, Grant Haua’s unique vocal sound is deep and gravelly in timbre and has earned high praise from his contemporaries, his guitar style on both electric and acoustic exudes passion for the blues. While Michael Barker’s (John Butler Trio) multi-tasking instrumental skills lay a solid foundation and full sound that drives Swamp Thing through soundscapes from brooding tension to high energy dance inspiring grooves.
Following their time in Baton Rouge, the enriched line-up includes Ben Wilcox on keyboards; Finn Scholes on trumpet & vibraphone; Jonathan Brittain on trombone. And, as an exclusive Festival treat the crew will be joined by highly acclaimed Mike Foster on sousaphone and double bass - straight from Louisiana!
Swamp Thing’s energetic and engaging live performances are legendary for their ability to entertain and captivate an audience, showcasing their outstanding musical passion. They play every show like it’s their last, creating a vibe that reaches far back into the musical DNA of the very best roots music!
